We half half day refresher, 1 day half theory/half practice, 2 day in line with all wales passport and Train the Trainer options

Safer people handling training course is and advanced learning resource that is aimed at carers who want to gain a greater understanding of how to reduce the risk of injury and learn best practices. This course is more comprehensive than our one-day safer people handling training course and includes the guidelines as set out in the All Wales Passport for Moving & Handling.

Advanced Safer People Handling Training Course Summary:

Awareness of Legislation including Health and Safety at Work Act, PUWER, LOLER, Manual Handling Regulations Operations (1992)

Duties and Responsibilities of Employer and Employee

Anatomy of Spine

Risk Assessment using safe principles T.I.L.E.E

Reducing risk and removing hazards

Understanding R.I.D.D.O.R

Safe use of correct equipment

Knowledge of dangerous moves

Ability Test

Chair Moves to stand and chair to chair transfer

Slings – inserting whilst in bed/in a wheelchair

Hoist – bed to chair transfer

Lasts approximately 12 hours over 2 consecutive days

Learning Outcomes

Once the delegate has completed this two-day safer people handling training course they will have achieved a clearer understanding of legislation, risk assessments, E.L.I.T.E safe principles, their responsibilities as a carer and equipment used.

Additionally, they will be able to show with confidence best practices and techniques relating to moving and handling people in a safe manner. These techniques include assisted stand, assisted sit, slide sheet and hoisting techniques, use of beds and wheelchairs and chair moves


The course lasts approx 3 hours


You will receive a certificate of attendance which is valid for 12 months.

Reflection Template – Excellent for Revalidation but can be used by all staff

Trainer resource pack will be an excellent support to a trainer who facilitates training in house. The Trainer pack containers everything you will need to begin you own in-house training. You will be able to adapt and edit the resource pack to make it more bespoke to your area of work and this will assist delegates to bridge the gap between theory and practice.

Train the Trainer

Pre-course material will be sent out 1 month before course date.

Within this material delegates will be expected to of completed necessary sections to participate within the course. The portfolio of evidence will be built up before, during and after the course. A micro teach will be filmed on the last day. Peer and self-assessments will be part of the assessment process. Reflective diary and action plan. The portfolio of evidence can be handed in up to 6 months after the final day of the course.

The portfolio will be both subject and training evidence.

Face to Face – The coursework must be completed before the assessment day. A final copy can be submitted after training. Assessment is role play, discussion, microteach, coursework. Certificate is valid for 3 years.

Distance – Support via email/calls with a clinical trainer through-out your study time and afterwards. Assessment is coursework and video microteach. Certificate is valid for 3 years
